New players will be in Maple Island, a beginner-friendly floating island. Unlike most MMORPGs, players in MapleStory do not choose a "class" or "work" at the character creation. Instead, all the characters in this MMOG are labeled "Beginner" until certain conditions are met for promotion. Players can choose from a variety of faces, hairstyles, skin tone and hair, and initial equipment. Up to three characters can be brought in each game world / server.
MapleStory has a classification system that allows players to compare their character (s) of experience to gain points in the same world class, and any change in classification from the previous day.
